The light on the Douglas firs overlooking the ocean here in the Pacific Northwest at 9:30 p.m. in July reminds me of the late afternoon light in the Interior Alaska forest in March, and I find myself in the studio making a paean of praise to a grove of beautiful Alaskan birches.
